Are you ready for a mini winter escape? Then look no further and check out our top 4 family friendly activities to do in Keystone, Colorado! This was our first time to the beautiful state of Colorado and we were not disappointed. My daughter and I did exceptionally well and acclimated to the altitude with no problems but my husband suffered from altitude sickness. He has never experienced anything like this before but as soon as we were below 5,000 feet, back in the Denver area, he was back to normal thank God! We had the best Air BnB with the most amazing views, a 5 minute walk to the grocery store and Starbucks! Below are my family’s top 4 things to do in Keystone and surrounding areas with children!
#1: Ice Skate at Dercum Square
This beautiful ice skating rink is located in the center of River Run Village. The rink is small but perfect for beginners! You can ice skate during the day and night although we preferred the day because the views are absolutely gorgeous! As I waited for my loves to finish up I was able to enjoy a hot cup of cocoa being sold near the skating rink. Admissions is $13 per adult and $9 per child (12 and under). To rent the ice skates it costs $15 per adult and $10 per child (12 and under). It is a bit expensive but the memories will last forever!
#2: Kidtopia
Kidtopia is the perfect spot to spend an afternoon with the kiddos! Take a covered lift to the top of the mountain and enjoy the fun. The views are spectacular, with tons of slides, snow and fun activities for kids of all ages to enjoy. You will have to pay a small fee to reach the top by lift but there is no charge to enter Kidtopia.
Living in Texas we do not receive a ton of cold weather so I must warn you that while we were on top of Dercum Mountain our phones died because it was sooo incredibly cold! Once we got down mountain our phones were back up and running. I was very shocked about this incident and never thought an iPhone would freeze up because it was too cold!
#3: Frisco Adventure Park
Near Keystone is an area called Frisco Nordic Center where families gather together to have fun doing an assortment of things like tubing, skiing, or enjoying a sleigh ride. It is here that we decided to go tubing because the crowds were not as big and the cost was much more inexpensive then in Keystone. We attempted to ski but our daughter was still too young and we did not want to put her in a ski school on her own. If you decide to go tubing the fee is approximately $26 per family for the first hour and $10 every additional hour after that. This is such a fun activity to do with small children under 5 especially if you can’t ski.
#4: Dinner Sleigh Ride in Breckenridge, CO
Our last full day ended with an evening sleigh ride, hot cocoa and a very nice dinner in Breckenridge. We world have taken a sleigh ride at the Frisco Nordic Center but they were completely booked. Fortunately for us were able to find another company in Breckenridge (a 45 minute drive from Keystone) that had 1 more opening for a dinner and a sleigh ride. This sleigh ride was picture perfect! The sun was setting, we had huge thick blankets covering our legs, hot cocoa, and a fabulous steak dinner to end the night. The sleigh ride takes no more than 45 minutes and if you decide to include dinner that takes at least an additional hour.
